April 12, 2021 Announcements
April is Arab-American Heritage Month and the holy fasting month of Ramadan begins in mid-April as well, so if you check out our Newsletter you will see a few messages and resources for anyone interested in learning more about the contributions of Arabs throughout history and about the month of fasting that our Muslim brothers and sisters will be participating in this coming month. We hope you are all well and we look forward to seeing you at an upcoming CRT meeting.
Seniors - there are lots and lots of scholarships to apply for. Here is the link to the local scholarship list and the state scholarship list. Updated regularly with new scholarships so keep checking: WHS Local Scholarship List State Scholarship List Don’t forget to check out the new ONLINE SCHOOL STORE at https://shopwestbrookwrvc.merchmake.com/. There are many items for WHS and WRVC students. If you would like to check out the quality of some of the products, there are a few products on display in the vocational center (t-shirt, beanie, cropped hoodie, cell phone case, hats.) New products can be designed for your class (Class of ___) school club, organization or sports team. The students in FBLA would love the opportunity to design something for you. If you would like to design something, that is an option as well! Send an email to the Business teacher Mrs. Dolloff at email@example.com to let her know. Mr.Russell is putting together A & B student focus groups. Each group will meet during ACE on their respective days and discuss school life and community issues. Involvement and topics will be kept anonymous. If this is something you're interested in doing please email Mr.Russell for more information. Russellm@westbrookschools.org Freshmen and Sophomores are invited to apply to Seeds of Peace Camp in Otisfield, ME (about an hour from Westbrook). Students will attend camp from August 1-18, 2021 with other young people from high schools around Maine. Students engage in "Dialogue", exploring world, national and local issues, meeting new people, gaining valuable listening skills and insight into themselves personally. It's a great time to make new friends and have fun. Please check out the Seeds of Peace website below, and also the application link for camp. If you are interested, please contact Dr. Dyer at firstname.lastname@example.org https://www.seedsofpeace.org/programs/developing-leaders/camp/camp2021/ https://www.seedsofpeace.org/faq-2/ CALLING FOR TALENT! We are starting to have students showcase their talents during the Tuesday and Thursday lunch blocks. Right now, due to the Covid guidelines, we can only have drummers, pianists, guitars, violin, cellos, etc. No wind instruments, or singing, but when restrictions lift we will be adding more variety. If you would like to perform please see Miss Sorg in Student Services, or seek out Cam Mulkern for details!
